Rylee Britton Obituary Springfield IL, Glenwood HS Student Died In Chatham Accident

The community of Chatham, Illinois is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Rylee Britton, an 18-year-old Glenwood High School student and dedicated athlete, who tragically lost her life in the devastating incident at the YNOT After School Camp on Monday.

Rylee, a resident of Springfield, was among four young girls killed when a vehicle drove through the camp facility, claiming innocent lives and leaving an entire town shaken. According to the Sangamon County Coroner, Rylee died at the scene from multiple blunt force injuries.

A proud member of the Glenwood High School swim team, Rylee was known for her discipline in the water and her graceful determination both in and out of the pool. Competing across the Central State Eight Conference, Rylee made her mark as a skilled and passionate athlete, ranking 17th for Glenwood in the 2023–2024 season and consistently showing growth and perseverance.

Her teammates and coaches describe her as a quiet force — steady, supportive, and always lifting those around her. She brought warmth to every practice and meet, balancing athletic excellence with a kind heart and humble nature.

Rylee was also a vibrant student, a loyal friend, and a loving daughter. Her future was bright, filled with dreams yet to unfold. Her presence, her laughter, and her unwavering strength will never be forgotten.

The tragic accident that took her life has left the community reeling, but Rylee’s memory will forever live on in the halls of Glenwood High School, in the hearts of her teammates, and in the waters she once raced through with grace.

A candlelight vigil will be held on April 30 at Glenwood High School to honor Rylee and the other young lives lost. The Glenwood Student Council has also organized a GoFundMe campaign to support the families affected.
