With broken hearts, the community of Chatham, Illinois mourns the loss of Kathryn Corley, age 7, whose young and beautiful life was tragically cut short in the devastating accident at the YNOT Outdoors After School Camp on Monday, April 28.
Kathryn was one of four children killed when a vehicle crashed through the after-school center, turning an ordinary day into a heartbreaking tragedy that has shaken the entire town. According to authorities, she was pronounced deceased at the scene due to injuries sustained in the collision.
A bright light in every room she entered, Kathryn will be remembered for her innocent laughter, curious mind, and gentle spirit. She was a joyful child whose eyes sparkled with wonder and warmth. Whether coloring with friends, playing outside, or sharing giggles with her family, she radiated happiness in its purest form.
Kathryn was the kind of child who found magic in everyday moments. Her kindness, sweetness, and imagination were far beyond her years. To her parents, teachers, and little friends, she was a source of joy and comfort — a reminder of what is good and pure in the world.
As Chatham grieves the unimaginable loss of one of its youngest hearts, we hold close the memories of Kathryn’s short but meaningful life. Her presence will be missed beyond measure, but the love she gave and the light she brought will never fade.
A candlelight vigil is scheduled to take place at Glenwood High School on April 30, honoring Kathryn and the other lives lost in this tragic event. A GoFundMe organized by Glenwood Student Council is currently supporting the families affected by the accident.
